Gulf Coast Energy Forum

The U.S. Gulf Coast has emerged as the crossroads for global LNG activity. The U.S. Gulf Coast and the Henry Hub benchmark is no longer simply a supply source – it is now the premium demand pricing point for the continent. As a result, there is worldwide interest in the dynamics of this particular region, across the entire natural gas value chain, supporting LNG. This event responds to the industry’s demand for a purpose-built venue for industry players to learn, obtain insight, network and conduct business across the entire natural gas value chain supporting global LNG activity.

Frictional Sliding in Pipeline Technology

Join us for an educational webinar on frictional sliding technology! Go to your MemberPlanet events to find the webinar details here: https://www.memberplanet.com/events/yppusa/frictionalslidinginpipelineintegrity

Webinar Summary
In response to the San Bruno pipeline explosion in 2010, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) introduced a set of rules, collectively known as the “Gas Mega Rule”, which require pipeline operators to verify material properties of all their onshore gas pipelines by July 2035. As a result, pipeline operators have developed a need for non-destructive testing (NDT) technologies to help them meet the requirements of this new regulation. One such technology is MMT’s Hardness, Strength, and Ductility (HSD) tester which utilizes frictional sliding to non-destructively evaluate a pipe’s yield strength (YS) and ultimate tensile strength (UTS). This webinar will discuss how frictional sliding was developed and validated as a reliable method to determine the YS and UTS of pipes, how it is used to determine the specific type of welding process used for electric resistance welded (ERW) pipes, how it is utilized to determine seam toughness, and the overall NDT process to provide operators with complete records of their pipelines. Additionally, the future developments in in-ditch material verification technologies will be covered.

Presenter Biography
Mindaugas Vaisys received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. After spending 6 years in the electrical power distribution equipment manufacturing field, Mindaugas joined MMT in 2021 as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. Currently he leads the manufacturing activities related to the Hardness, Strength, and Ductility (HSD) tester and is helping the development of a portable steel toughness tester.

Webinar - Automated Underwater Vehicle Inspection Technologies for Subsea Pipelines

Join us for our December webinar with speaker Gunnar Brink!

Webinar Summary
Many hundreds of thousands of kilometers of oil and gas pipelines have been laid on the seabed and more are being laid. Some are on the seafloor; some have been buried. The seabed is constantly moving due to tidal currents, other currents, and sometimes due to internal temperature fluctuations of the pipeline or external weather influences. All these phenomena can cause deeper burial or exposure, free spans and buckling of the pipelines. Even more frequently, third party damages can cause problems, such as from anchoring vessels, fishing nets or dropped objects. Therefore, underwater pipelines have to be regularly subjected to external inspection by professional divers or robots. These robots can be remotely operated, in which case they are called ROVs, or they can work autonomously and without connecting cables, in which case they are called AUVs. Gunnar Brink will present the common problems and concerns of subsea pipelines and explain the advantages of AUVs for their inspection compared to divers and ROVs.

Presenter Biography
Gunnar Brink studied physics at the Technical University of Munich, where he received his PhD on biosensors. Afterwards he led teams in the development of laboratory devices before becoming coordinator for computer science and AI institutes at the Executive Board of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.  In 2016, after moving to a Fraunhofer institute as head of strategy and innovation management, he became team lead of one of the 32 internationally participating teams in the $7 million Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE. His team was one of 9 semi-final winners and one of 5 finalists. In the project, the 17-member team successfully developed a fleet of 5 autonomous deep-sea AUVs and 5 unmanned maritime surface vehicles for large-scale exploration and survey of the deep seafloor. Since 2019, he is responsible for the market strategy and external financing of the subsea robotics projects at ROSEN Group. He is inventor or co-inventor of a total of 19 patents or pending patent applications in the field of underwater robotics.

Webinar - Pipelines in the Water Industry

Webinar - Pipelines in the Water Industry

Water pipes, in the broadest sense of the word, existed long before the first oil and gas pipelines were built. Until now, however, these water pipelines have been neglected from an integrity standpoint. While world population growth and climate change show a sharp increase in demand for water, all of this must be met with an outdated network of pipelines. Well-functioning inspection systems can answer the outstanding integrity questions that network operators have. Berry Krijbolder will provide a brief insight into what is going on in this industry and what obstacles need to be addressed.

YPI/YPP USA Hydrogen Pipelines Integrity Technologies

Check the email associated with your YPP account for registration and login details.

Webinar Summary

As the world moves towards a decarbonized future, global demand for fossil fuels continues to rise. The challenge is to meet the increased energy demand while reducing overall emissions along the entire value chain. In this context, hydrogen will play an important role as a flexible energy carrier, which in turn will have an impact on how we manage our (converted) pipelines.

This presentation will discuss the importance of hydrogen for the energy transition and the role of existing pipelines. We will summarize the unique properties of hydrogen and the differences between hydrogen pipelines and natural gas pipelines. In addition, we will introduce a framework approach outlining a structured approach for the assessment of existing pipelines and the management of their conversion to, and operation under, hydrogen service.

Presenter Bio

Ollie Burkinshaw is a Senior Materials Engineer with ROSEN Integrity Solutions, where he currently works on projects and service development around hydrogen applications, as well as material verification services that incorporate approaches based on In-Line Inspection, non-destructive and destructive testing. Ollie has 10 years’ experience with roles in integrity engineering, manufacturing and consultancy roles. He holds a Master's and Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science & Metallurgy from the University of Cambridge.
